Different Types oF Silk/Resham Fabrics
Resham is a soft cloth which is also popular as silk. Basically Resham is nothing but Silk which can be used both as fabric and as a thread for doing the fine work of embroidery. Resham Embroidery looks great on various Indian clothing like simple handkerchief, salwar kameez, saree, lehenga choli, kurta paijama or indowestern. Even a simple fabric starts looking rich when decorated with various resham embroidery designs. The use of resham embroidery in the Indian clothing has been since ages and it’s still going on. The beautiful shine which the embroidery of resham gives to any outfit is just worth praising. Work of Resham is more complimented when used on fabrics like georgette, jacquard, crepe and cotton.
However there are different kinds of silks like Banarasi Silk, Chennai Silk, Art Silk, Tussar Silk, Dupion Silk, Chanderi Silk and Raw Silk.
Different Types of Silk.
Banarasi Silk Sarees: As the name suggested, Banarasi Silk Sarees are manufactured in Varanasi and the specialty about these saris are that they have golden border. Being inspired by the designs of Mughal era, these saris are heavy with rich golden work and that is why Banarasi silk saris are considered as one of the Indian traditional dresses.
Chennai Silk Sarees: Chennai Silk saris are very popular in South India; in fact all the south Indian brides wear Chennai silk saree. Theses saris come in both modern pattern and traditional pattern. These saris have rich golden border with foil print in between. Recently Esha Deol got married wherein her mother Hema Malini wore Chennai silk sari and she was looking amazingly beautiful.
Art Silk: Art Silk Sarees comes at a very low range as compared to all the other Silks like Banarasi Silk, Chennai Silk and Chanderi Silk. Art Silk Fabric is a paper like fabric and saris of this fabric are very light to wear and it’s the best office wear.
Dupion Silk: Dupion silk fabric has a glossy shine with small patterns that goes around all the fabric. It is a very soft fabric which is very slippery and looks great on every woman. Most of the brides prefer Dupion Silk Sarees for their bridemaids as it is also very comfortable to wear.
Chanderi Silk: Chanderi Silk is a blend of cotton, resham thread and Zari thread. Mostly Chanderi Silk is very light in weight and most of the fabric have golden border with stripes designs. Chanderi Silk is manufactured in Madhya Pradesh, that’s why it got its name chanderi which is a village of Madhya Pradesh.
